Shirley A. Gibson, age 85, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, March 1, 2018. She was born on August 9, 1932 to Kenneth and Georgia (Butler) Mummert in Toledo. She was a graduate of Libbey High School. Shirley married the love of her life Stanley J. Gibson on August 18, 1951. Throughout her entire life she was a devout Catholic and was extremely involved with several parishes including, Mt. Carmel Church - Bono, OH, St. Mary's Church - Rockledge, FL and St. Hyacinth Church in Toledo.
She was highly committed to her family and raising her children. Shirley was involved with Cub Scouts, all school committees and activities. Sunday family dinners were always important to Shirley and her family looked forward to them and her delicious meals.
After moving and living in Florida, she returned to Ohio to live with her sister, Helen. Shirley was a competitive euchre player and loved her trips to the casino. She was active in the Red Hats Society and the Maumee Senior Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley J. Gibson and brother, Kenneth Mummert; sister in law, Mary Mummert; brother in law, Duane Stahl and dear friend, Marie Sherer. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Timothy (Diane) Gibson, Rick (Teresa) Gibson, Scott (Beth) Gibson, Stanley (Deborah) Gibson and Georgianne (Bill) Campbell; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; siblings, Jackie Stahl, George Mummert, Helen Mummert; sisters-in-law, Pat Mummert and Pat Hutchinson; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Shirley's family would like to specially thank Flower Hospital Cancer Center, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, her sister Helen and her dear friend, Brenda for the loving care and support they provided to her.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Shirley's memory to St. Hyacinth Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
The family will receive guests on Saturday, March 17, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. at St. Hyacinth Church, 719 Evesham Ave., Toledo, OH 43607. Her Memorial Mass will begin in the church at 10:00 a.m.
Shirley's final wishes were to donate her body to medical research so others could benefit.
