Shirley Mae Cook, 91, passed away peacefully Friday, April 11, 2025. She was born November 21, 1933 in Toledo to Robert A. and Bessie F. (Randolph) Graver. Shirley graduated from Scott High School, class of 1951. She went on to attend the University of Toledo, where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. Shirley graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 1955.
She married the love of her life, Bill Cook on October 15th, 1960. Shirley cherished spending time with her family, enjoying countless gatherings filled with love and laughter. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest treasures and she loved hearing them call her "Meemo".
Shirley was a member of The Church of St. Andrew United Methodist and also a member of the Ladies Shrine Dendarah Court for many years.
Shirley and Bill's favorite vacation spot was the sandy beaches of Siesta Key. They also loved traveling with family and special friends to many fun and wonderful places. Shirley enjoyed watching her grandsons play baseball from their younger years through college, especially when traveling to Florida for their spring baseball trips. She also enjoyed watching her granddaughters play soccer from their early years through college.
Shirley loved flowers, especially anything pink. Some of her favorites included salmon colored geraniums. Shirley enjoyed crafting floral wreaths and flower arrangements. She stayed active bowling at the former Southwyck Lanes in a Ladies League with her best girlfriends for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, William D. Cook; brother, Robert H. Graver and his wife, Nancy and sister and brother in-law, Betty and Bob Huber. Shirley is survived by her daughters, Caren Beth (Gary) Beddoes and Cathy Mae (Scott) Burkett; grandchildren, Sarah (James) Koehler, Emily (Jake) Lindhurst, Jennifer (Drew) Saltzstein, Jason (Monet) Burkett and Matthew (Hallie) Burkett; great grandchildren, Lucas, Kennedy and Sawyer Lindhurst and Noah and Jack Saltzstein. Shirley will also be missed by two additional great granddaughters who will be born soon; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive guests Tuesday, April 15, 2025 from 2-8:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, SW Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. (419-381-1900). Funeral Services will begin Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at 10:30 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery, Sylvania.
