Shawn Elliott Thompson Sr was born on August 17, 1969 to Phyllis Mae Thompson and Leon Carlton Barnett Sr

Shawn attended Hamilton Elementary and Graduated from Woodward High School in 1988. Shawn was always the life of the party, the spark that ignited joy and mayhem at the same time. His presence was like a burst of fireworks on a dark night, you never really knew how that fireworks would end. He certainly kept everyone on their toes. His infectious laughter and big smile will be truly missed. Shawn loved his family! Anyone who knew him knows that he would do anything for his mother, siblings, children grandchildren and friends. Even though he was trying to retire the nick name "BT", his family knows, he will always be referred to and affectionately known as "BT" (Even if some people don't really know what "BT" stands for. If you don't know you won't find out today. "BT" is officially retired.)

Shawn was most recently employed at DMS, he worked there three years. Shawn attended Ohio Barber College after graduating high school. Even though he didn't graduate he was everybody's barber. During his time in barber college he was multi-faceted, he did both men's and women's hair. He loved the profession so much he shared and passed down his talent to one of his sons. He didn't cut at any one place, but his clients knew how to get an appointment. He loved to cook and was good at it! He could have only three ingredients and somehow make a delicious meal. Shawn constantly tinkered with things, taking them apart and putting them back together (sometimes ??). If whatever he was working on didn't go back together like it came apart, he still found a way to make it work somehow. He was a real-life MacGyver. He was active in Stickney activities and he loved his "Out Stickney" family and friends. He also loved to ride his motorcycle, it leaned into his spirit of being free and living on the edge. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was a sharp dressed man when stepping out on the town. His hats were his signature piece that always highlighted his attire. People took notice when he was in the room. He was also a big Green Bay Paker fan.

Shawn's last post on FB spoke volumes. He wanted everyone to take note of their current situation. He stated that if you think you're doing bad or you're not in the place in life you want to be right now, you need to remember that there are people in situations worse off than you. Your worst may be better than someone else's worst so be thankful for where you are and what you have. Keep faith in God and trust Him and your situation can turn around. Shawn's Daughter said it best…."He may not have been perfect but he was perfect for her". God thought he was perfect too and called him home. Shawn will be dearly missed! In loving memory we won't say goodbye, we'll say until we meet again.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Edwina Bailey; and great-grandparents, Thomas and Zora Murdock. Left to cherish Shawn's memory are his loving mother, Phyllis (Herman) Washington; devoted children, Shawntá Thompson, Darian (Victoria) Thompson, Shawn (Skyla) Thompson, Jr., Symeria Thompson and Nichea Self; grandchildren, Nova, Carmello, Lyric, Maliyah and Jaliyah; siblings, Steven (Sarah) Thompson, Stephanie (Darwin) Arney, Brian (Anita) Bailey, Scott (Nellie) Thompson, Leon (Crystal) Barnett, Deion (Nina) Barnett, Lynette (Greg) McDuffey-Garrett, and Sabrina (Norman "Rocky") Barnett-Jamison; aunt, Diane Henderson; long time confidant, Emma Wallace; lifelong brothers, Alex, Hector, Aric, Tim and Walt; many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and a host of dear friends and loved ones.
