Sharon Mae Kurtz, age 80, of Temperance, Michigan, passed away June 27, 2024, at The Toledo Hospital. Sharon was born May 20, 1944, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Herbert and Ruth (Kaiser) DeRose.
Sharon graduated from Whitmer High School, class of 1963. During that time, she also completed cosmetology school. She married her husband, John, in 1966, and together had two beautiful children. She was a homemaker, caring for her family and home; she always made sure they were taken care of and a delicious meal was on the table.
Known as Mama Kurtz to many, she loved her children, grandchildren, and even others’ children! Getting together with family, especially during the Holidays, was something she looked forward too, and ohhh the decorations! There was so much love, fun, laughter and lots of food!
Sharon loved touring old homes, garage/yard sales, coloring, listening to all genres of music, and reading murder mysteries and romance novels. She was very competitive and feisty, especially when playing Rummy!
Sharon’s love, humor, and feistiness will be forever remembered. The moments spent together and the memories created will be cherished forever.
Those left to forever cherish her memory are her loving children, Gary (Ann) Kurtz and Lara (Mike) Freeman; grandchildren, Kyle (Siena) Kurtz and his mom, Karen Downey, Masin Hartley and his dad, Aaron Hartley, Hannah (Collin) Patterson, Mary (Galen) Flora, Sarah Freeman, and Will Freeman; great grandchildren, Benton Flora and Colton Flora; sister, Carol Abbott (Bob); nieces and nephews, Eddie (Mary) Landrum, Dar Johnson, Sandy (Steve) Bateson, Doug Landrum, and Deb Lewis; and numerous cousins and loved ones.
In addition to her parents, Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, John Kurtz, whom she married on April 4, 1966; and brother, Herbert (Marilyn) DeRose.
Family and friends may gather at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 West Laskey Road, Toledo, Ohio 43626, on Saturday, July 13, 2024, from 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm, where the memorial service will take place at 4:00 pm.
