Selene H. Sanders, age 83, of Sylvania, passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, June 30, 2009 in her home. She was born January 13, 1926 to Kenneth F. and Olga B. (Hudson) Myrice at the old East Side Hospital. Selene grew up in the Five-Points area on Phillips Ave., Toledo. She use to help her father in his furniture store along with her two brothers. While in high school she started working at the age of 16 at LaSalle's, in the gift wrapping department, which is owned by Macy's. Selene graduated from Harriet Whitney Vocational School. She continued to work for LaSalle's and was promoted to assistant buyer of women's clothing. Selene also did some traveling as a buyer. She met her first husband, Robert D. Pool Sr. and they were married in February 11, 1947. Selene continued to work until her third child was born. She then went back to work after her daughter was six years old. Selene retired from Elder Beerman's in 1987 when she moved to Englewood, Florida where she lived for over ten years until moving back to Ohio. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former first husband, Robert D. Pool Sr., second husband, Robert Stiles, third husband, William Sanders Sr., brothers, Kenneth Jr., Herbert Sr. and Malcolm Myrice and sister, Olga Chmielewski. Selene is survived by her sons, Robert D. (Pauline) Pool Jr. and Dennis W. (Linda) Pool; daughter, Linda (Richard) Plasencio; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and son-in-law, Edward C. McElyea Sr.

The family will receive guests on Monday from 3 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
