Sarah "Jeanne" DeVaughn
Sarah "Jeanne" DeVaughn, age 90, of Toledo, passed away July 19, 2017 at The Lakes of Sylvania. Jeanne was born November 13, 1926 in Huntington, West Virginia to Leonard and Margaret (Young) Markin. She married Harry DeVaughn June 20, 1942. He preceded her in death after 56 years of marriage. She and her husband were foster parents for many years providing a loving home for 167 foster children. She also volunteered for St. Vincent Hospital crocheting afghans for patients. She enjoyed baking, sewing, reading, and maintaining her flower garden. In more recent years, she had taken up doing word search puzzles and coloring books. Jeanne was a member of Lewis Avenue Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children, Barbara (Robert) Rader, Trudi Clevenger, Larry D. (Sharon) DeVaughn, Marti Howell, Becky (Robert) Zamzow and Larry G. (Ellen) DeVaughn, 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by 2 sons, Buck and David DeVaughn.
The family will receive guests Monday, July 24, 2017 from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. Toledo, OH 43623. A celebration of her life will begin Monday at 12:00 pm. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Area Office on Aging or Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Jeanne's memory.
