Sara Joann Emrick, age 76, resident of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at The Toledo Hospital. She was born on January 5, 1945, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Henry and El Nora (Cramer) McKnight.
Sara was a high school graduate of DeVilbiss High School. She worked as an Activities Director for over 20 years, finishing her career at Rosary Care Center where she continued to volunteer. Sara was an associate of the Franciscan Sisters as well, where she loved to help and care for them. She loved going to movies every Sunday, listening to country music and going to country concerts, her animals, but most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her sole passion in life was her family; they meant the world to her.
Those left to forever cherish her memory are her loving husband, James (Wes) Emrick, whom she married on October 30, 1982; four children, David Best, Daniel (Connie) Best, Lori Best, Michelle (Aaron) Mallett; grandchildren, Jordan (Austin) Best, Tyler (Kelsey) Mallett, Nicholas Best, Amy Best, Mackenzie Mallett; great grandchildren, Emma, Scarlett, Brody, Violet, and Charlie Belle; sisters, Susie (Bruce) Rizzen and Mary (Larry) Backstrom; brothers, Patrick (Jennifer) McKnight and Robert McKnight; dog, Lenny; cats, Smokes, Jimmy and Pumpkin; grand dogs, Quinn, Addie, and Baby; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, William McKnight and Michael McKnight; and a sister, Martha Otwell.
Family and friends may gather at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 West Laskey Road, Toledo,
Ohio 43623, on Thursday, December 30, 2021, from 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm, where a prayer service will take place at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, December 31, 2021, at 11:00 am, at Regina Coeli Catholic Church, 530 Regina Pkwy, Toledo, OH 43612, with Fr. George Mahas officiating, followed by a luncheon at Kotz Hall.
Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Franciscan Sisters of Sylvania or the Toledo Humane Society.
