Samuel Shaffer

Samuel L. "Sam" Shaffer, age 83 of Temperance, Michigan passed away Monday, December 27, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 13, 1927 to Marshall and Loa (Swearengine) Shaffer in Toledo. Sam was a graduate of Macomber High School and he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He retired from DuPont as a plant operator after 35 years of employment. Sam married JoAnn (Birtsch) Shaffer on May 30, 1998 and together they spent 13 wonderful years. They spent seven of those thirteen years in Cape Coral, Florida where Sam enjoyed sailing. During his spare time he often sailed on Lake Erie. He was a current member of Shelton Park Church of God and a former member of Calvary Assembly of God.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnn; daughter, Ellen Shaffer; step-sons, Phillip (Ruth), Randy; Russell (Linda) Anderson; step-daughter, Dorothy Anderson; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and sisters, Gloria Duncan and Darlene Kirk. Preceding him in death were his parents; sons, Brian and Craig Shaffer; sister, Delores Campbell and brother, Merlin Shaffer.

The family will receive guests Thursday from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin in the funeral home Friday at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
