Samuel D. Shropshire

Samuel D. "Sam" Shropshire, age 74, of Toledo, passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2013. He was born on November 13, 1938 to Bruce L. and Edith Pearlie (Atkins) Shropshire in Knoxville, TN. Sam retired from GM Powertrain after 30 years of service. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, camping with his family and woodworking. Sam was a self-taught guitarist and liked completing auto body work.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 55 years, Carol N. (Hall) Shropshire; children, David Lee, Samuel Scott, Cheryl Lynn (Bill) Whittaker and Kelly Jane Shropshire; 5 grandsons, Jason, Jeremy, Brandon and Derrick; 3 great-grandsons and 3 great-granddaughters and sister, Oetta (Gary) Swisher. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his grandson, Daniel Musson and brothers, James Lee, Thomas Robert and Amos Paul Hurley.

The family will receive guests from 2-8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 28, 2013 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin in the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 in the funeral home.

Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Lewis Avenue Baptist Church.
