Ruth S. Reed, age 73, a lifelong resident of Toledo, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2021 surrounded by her family at her home. She was born February 20, 1948 in Toledo. Ruth graduated from Rogers High School, Class of '66 and went on to attend the University of Toledo, attaining a BA in Education. Ruth became a teacher with Norwalk Schools teaching in the high school for several years until she and her husband Joseph started their family. When her family expanded to having 3 children, Ruth dedicated her life to being the best wife and mother she could be. As the kids grew up she became their tutor, their carpool driver, their best supporter and whatever they needed her to be.
Ruth was a loving person with a warm smile and a big heart and was often looked at as a mom to all the kids in the neighborhood. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren playing board games and puzzles of all kinds. Ruth was also a great cook making family get-together's memorable and filled with delicious foods of all kinds, especially her famous chocolate chip cookies. Christmas was a favorite time of year for Ruth and her family and friends with her home filled with trees adorned with hundreds of decorations, convinced there was always room for one more ornament on her tree.
Ruth also spent a lot of her time reading, anything from romance to mysteries and everything in-between. Even though Ruth battled macular degeneration she was determined to create beautiful paint-by-number designs on her iPad. In her younger years, she was active on several bowling leagues and attended many card parties with her sisters and friends.
In addition to her mother, Esther (Meyers) Woodby, Ruth was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph and siblings, Sandy Ann Woodby, Patricia Berner, Marlene Rogers, Jean Crossman, Rosie Bucher and John Woodby.
She is survived by her sons, Matthew and Jeffrey Reed; daughter, Jennifer (Rodney) Reed; grandchildren, Tony, Jacob and Cierra Frohlich; sister-in-law and lifelong friend, Linda Holley; sisters-in-law, Sally Guthrie, Esther Adams and Cathy Polinski; uncle, Kenneth Meyers and lifelong friends, Sharon Kent and Karen McKenzie.
