Ruth A. Martzke, age 80, of Toledo, passed away Sunday, December 30, 2007 in the Toledo Hospital. She was born April 17, 1927 to Earl and Edith (Cook) Steadman in Toledo. Ruth began volunteering as the school librarian at Wernert Elementary School in the mid 1960's and later was given a fulltime position there retiring in 1983. She enjoyed painting, gardening and researching genealogy. Ruth was also a longtime member of Lutheran Church of Our Savior. Most importantly, she cherished the time she spent with family and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and sisters-in-law, Arlene Veitch and Evelyn Martzke. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Harry Martzke; sons, Steve (Jackie) Martzke and Scott (Kathi) Martzke; grandchildren, Amy (Nick) Malko; Chris Martzke; Derek (Alexis) Martzke and Gwen Martzke; great grandsons, Derek and Austin Martzke; sister-in-law, Lucretia (Don) Lammie; brothers-in-law, Robert Martzke and Jim (Vicki) Martzke and family; lifelong friend, Trude Smithers and many dear friends.
The family will receive guests Monday from 2-8:00 p.m. in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) and Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 2820 W. Alexis Rd., followed by Funeral Services beginning at 10:30 in the church. Officiating will be Pastor Richard O. Sauerlender. Interment will be in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
