Ruth G. Lewis

Ruth G. Lewis, passed away Nov. 21, 2021 at 99 years of age, 115 days short of 100 years. She was born March 16th, 1922 in Defiance, Ohio to Charles and Marie (Bretsch) Entenmann.
Ruth moved to Toledo after the death of her mother in 1923 and was raised in the Lutheran Children's Orphans Home along with her three sisters and one brother. She graduated from Waite High school in 1941. Ruth worked for Willys-Overland during WWII making Jeeps and parts for the war effort. In 1965, she moved to Iowa for five years returning to Toledo in 1970. She started working for JCPenny when the Franklin Park Mall opened in 1974, working in several departments until she helped start and managed the Sewing/Fabric Department, retiring in 1987. Ruth loved gardening, growing flowers, sharing vegetables with neighbors, and canning. She was an avid bowler winning many honors from her leagues. Ruth also loved to watch OSU football and PGA golf. Some of her other hobbies were sewing, ceramics, working puzzles, and crocheting. Ruth was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Saviour since 1949 and was still singing hymns until her passing. She was an active volunteer at church functions. Ruth's smile, spirit and caring nature will truly be missed by those who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents and 4 siblings, she was preceded in death by her daughter Ruth Ann. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Johanna (Bill) Mack, Diane Palmer, Kathleen (Joseph) Rodriguez, Linda (Jim) Krenk, Jim Lewis and Dan (Cathy) Lewis; 19 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Monday, November 29, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home - Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, 2820 W. Alexis Rd., Toledo, OH 43613. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Lutheran Church of Our Saviour or ProMedica Hospice.
