Ruth L. Laffartha, affectionately known as Ruthie, was born on September 26, 1981, in Toledo, Ohio. She departed from this world on February 22, 2025, in the same city that bore witness to her kind spirit and generous heart.
Ruthie’s professional journey was marked by her dedication to connecting people, serving as a connection mentor at the Center for Campus and Community Connections at Owens Community College since the fall of 2021. Her previous role at 5th Third Bank showcased her commitment to her community, where she made numerous contributions over the years.
Beyond her career, Ruthie was a person who radiated warmth and care, often placing the needs of others above her own. Her nurturing nature extended into every aspect of her life. Above all, she cherished her son, Octavio Montez, with an unwavering love that defined her existence. Ruthie was not only a mother but also a role model, striving to better herself through her education as she studied to become a sign language interpreter.
Ruthie’s interests were varied and vibrant; she found joy in reading Tarot cards and exploring the world of crystals. Her culinary skills shone through her love of baking, which she often shared with friends and family. She delighted in spending time with her friends' children, whom she lovingly regarded as her nieces and nephews. The outdoors called to her, providing a canvas for her adventurous spirit.
She had many close relationships, including those with Cory Miller, her brother, and cousins Brian Hartley and Gloria Walter. Ruthie also held dear friendships with Jacqueline Navarro-Saucedo and her husband Juan, as well as Julia Flores and her husband Steven, alongside extended friends Terri Hack, Paul Martin, Elisa Espinosa-Sloan, Krista Kiessling, and Jeff Rosinski.
Ruth was a licensed ordained minister and took great pride in her significant role as a local spokesperson for raising awareness of Autism. Her passion for advocacy and her desire to help others will leave a lasting imprint on those who knew her.
In her life, Ruthie exemplified the essence of compassion and selflessness. She will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
Ruthie's family and friends are planning a memorial service on Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at 1758 W. Sylvania Ave., Toledo, OH 43613. Friends may send donations on behalf of Ruthie to the Autism Society of Northwest Ohio; 7140 Port Sylvania Dr., Toledo, Ohio 43617.
