Ruth A. Hashim, age 80, of Toledo, passed away December 28, 2016 at Ebeid Hospice Residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 5, 1936 to Nimmer and Amelia (Shadid) Mrad in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Ruth was a longtime member of St. George Orthodox Cathedral, Toledo and a member of the Ladies Benevolent Society. She was also a member of the Kirby Club. Ruth was an avid reader, enjoyed taking casino trips and spending time with her family. She will be missed for her holiday cooking, especially her chicken, grape leaves, and hushwe. Ruth loved nothing more than time spent with her grandsons and sitting around playing cards. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Jo Mrad and Jenny Thomas; and George Hashim. Ruth is survived by her loving daughters, Dawn (Byron) Knestrick, Denise (Brian Cranmore) Hashim and Dina Hashim; grandsons, Jonathan, Bradley and Matthew; great-grandson, Owen; sisters, Blanche Zakaib and Kay Thomassen; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with Trisagon Services at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Funeral Services will begin on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 3754 Woodley Rd., Toledo 43606 with gathering from 10 – 11:00 a.m. in church. Officiating will be Fr. Michael Shaheen. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial donations are asked to consider St. George Orthodox Cathedral.
