Ruth E. Smith, age 91, of Toledo, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. She was born in Fostoria on August 16, 1917 to Edgar and Iva Burdick. Ruth married Floyd Smith in 1939 and moved to Toledo 10 years later, where they raised their four children; sons, David A. and Larry E., and daughters, Becky (Charles) Stack and Linda (Roy) Samons. Ruth was a sales associate at the J.C. Penney Co., retiring in 1982.
Family was her life. Ruth is remembered by many for making holidays and birthdays so special for her children. Especially at Christmas time when we all gathered around the piano singing while mom played. She was a very talented lady with a great sense of humor that is demonstrated in the many poems she'd written over the years.
Left to cherish her loving memories are her two daughters; daughter-in-law, Cindy (Foote) Smith; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and all who knew her. She was a sweet lady. Ruth was preceded in death by her two sons, David and Larry and two grandchildren, Stevie and Julie Samons.
The family will receive guests on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) with Funeral Services beginning at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be private at a later date.
Those wishing to make monetary donations are asked to consider Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
The family would like to give a special thank you to mom's loving caregivers, Linda, Cathy and Donna.
