Ruth Virginia Christy

Ruth V. Christy, age 91, passed away June 7, 2023. The daughter of John and Emelie Keller, she was born April 23, 1932 in Toledo. She was a graduate of Waite High School and attended Central Bible Institute for a year. She worked for the former Toledo Trust now Key bank and in retail for Sears, J.C. Penney in Toledo and at Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO. She married Merill Christy on November 27, 1953 in Toledo, OH. Ruth was a founding member of Calvary Assembly of God where she played piano, organ, vibraharp, sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for over 50 years. She was a woman of great faith and often shared her faith with friends and complete strangers. Ruth and her husband fostered many children over the years. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and gardening.

Surviving are her children, Barry (Suzette) Christy, Bonnie (Ken) Garrison, Cheryl (Jerry) Thompson, Laranda (Larry) Strugalski, Ruth Galloway; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merill Christy; parents; brothers, Clyde and Claude Keller; and grandson, Joseph DeStazio.

The family will receive guests on Monday, June 12, 2023 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home-South West Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. Toledo (419-381-1900). Funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Church 1360 Conant St. Maumee, OH 43537. The family will receive guests before the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. The service will be live streamed and can be viewed at ToledoCalvary.org

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Church to purchase Fire Bibles.
