Ruth Ann Kerr, age 60 of Toledo, Ohio passed away 1/31/07 surrounded by family and friends at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg, after a brave and vigilant battle with breast cancer. She was born September 29, 1946 to Melvin and Edna Noftz in Toledo. Ruth married Rick Kerr on November 26, 1966.
Sixteen years ago Ruth began her battle with breast cancer. She beat the odds that were given to her and became known to her doctors as their "miracle" patient. During that time, Ruth touched the lives and gave inspiration to many people fighting this disease. Ruth never let cancer interfere with her zest for life and was determined not to let the cancer rob her of the opportunity to enjoy her grandchildren. Despite her illness, Ruth led a happy life surrounded by family and friends (too numerous to list).
Ruth worked for 25 years for the Department of Defense at Teledyne. She served the local Breast Cancer Survivor group in volunteer work for event activities and was a member of Sylvania United Church of Christ. Being very people oriented, Ruth was a very caring and loving person and always enjoyed getting together with friends and family and celebrating events. She enjoyed many summers with family and friends at their cottage on Vineyard Lake in the Irish Hills.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. She is survived by husband, Richard, her daughters, Bonnie Kerr, and Kim (Jerry) Manore; and her second mom, Ernie Noftz; brother, John (Sam) Noftz and sister, Jeanette (Rick) Mather; step-sisters, Drucilla (born the same day as Ruth) (Tom) Mallard and Darlene (Steve) Venglarcik; stepbrother, David (Marie) Drinkhouse; 5 grandchildren, Justin, Brandon, Cameron, Josh and Zachary. And all 19 of her nieces and nephews would agree that everyone loved their Aunt Ruth.
Visitation will be Monday, February 5th, from 2-8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Tuesday, February 6th, at 10:30 a.m. with visitation one hour before at Sylvania United Church of Christ, 7240 Erie Street, Sylvania. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at NW Ohio Hospice for the loving care and compassion they provided.
Ruth and Rick would like to thank their family and friends for all the support and care-giving during the last 7 months. We couldn't have done it without your help and support.
In lieu of flowers, Ruth asked that you take a friend or family member to lunch or dinner and share the things we often think of only after someone is gone.
"Ruth will always be the sunshine in our hearts!"
