Russell A. "Skip" Simpson, age 78, of Toledo, passed away suddenly at his home on Tuesday, March 12, 2013. He was born on October 14, 1934 to Alfred R. and Martha E. (Allen) Simpson in Toledo. On March 29, 1958 he married Patricia A. (Mooneyham) Simpson in Toledo; they would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in a few short weeks. Skip retired from Greyhound as a bus driver after 23 years of service.
Together Skip and Pat started the local chapter of P.O.M.C. in 1981. Because of P.O.M.C. he went into training with victims advocacy and implemented the Lucas County Victims Witness Services. Skip was also a Facilitator for the Office of Victims Services with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections. He was active in the Eleanor Kahle Senior Center where he started as their Transportation Director and later became a Board Member. In 2004 Skip won the local Jefferson Award for his accomplishments within the community.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Patricia A. Simpson; daughter, Linda Lou Simpson; son, David (Renee) Simpson; grandchildren, Heather Whitaker, Joshua Simpson, Andrea Simpson and Jacob Simpson. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Stacy Sue Simpson and son, Scott Allen Simpson.
The family will receive guests on Saturday, March 16, 2013 from 3-8:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 17, 2013 from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin in the funeral home on Monday, March 18, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
