Ruby Gibson, age 87, of Toledo, went to be with her Lord on Monday afternoon August 17, 2015 at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania. She had been in poor health for an extended period of time.
Born May 25, 1928 in Clifford, KY, she was the daughter of Lindsay and Nancy (Frazier) Fitzpatrick. She married Rufus Gibson on Aug 30, 1947 and he preceded her in death on June 7, 2001.
In 1943, Ruby's father helped start Church of God Mt. Assembly. The church began meeting in a building on Summit St. in Toledo when she was 15. Ruby is the last original charter member who helped start the beginning of what is now Shelton Park Church of God in Temperance Michigan, formerly known as George Street Church of God Mt. Assembly.
She worked in many various jobs, last being Jeep Corporation. She was also a very talented doll maker. She also enjoyed cooking and being with her family around the holidays.
She is survived by and will be greatly missed by her son, Gary (Pat) Gibson of Hendersonville N.C; grandson, Jody Smith of Toledo; granddaughters, Stacy (Rodney) Hepner of Chesapeake Va; Kerry (Doug) Lewandowski of Lebanon, OH; five great-grandchildren and brother, Ted (Nadine) Fitzpatrick of Toledo.
In addition to her beloved husband Rufus, she was preceded in death by daughter, Sandy Barry; brothers, Bill, Roy, John, Jack and Garrett Fitzpatrick and sisters, Lea Pierce, Wavel Mullins and Emma Jean Ellison.
The family will receive guests on Sunday, August 23, 2015 from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin in the funeral home on Monday, August 24, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Scott Isham officiating, Pastor of Shelton Park Church of God. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Shelton Park Church of God in Temperance, MI or Promedica Ebeid Hospice.
