Ruben was born in Alto, Louisiana on January 1937 to Ruben Sr. and Delilah Spears. Once out of high school, he met and married his wife of 53 years, Mary (Richardson) and they started a family which includes, Edward D., Sandra R. and Ronald R. Spears.
Ruben and Mary then moved their family to Toledo Ohio in the mid 1960's, where he held many jobs including factory, construction and his last position as a "Ball Mill" operator for Plaskon Chemicals, which he retired early due to health issues.
Affectionately known as "Mane" or "Pop" or "Pop-Pop" always had a joke or smile for everyone. He always tried to help, no matter what the problem. He was a self-taught mechanic and could fix any problem with cars or home appliances. He also loved sports. If a ball was bounced, kicked or hit, he'd watch it. He also couldn't keep a secret, he would tell whatever he knew!
He also loved his grandchildren, Cameron and Ashley. Always trying to inspire them to do better than he did. He encouraged them to seek higher education and become the best at whatever they chose to do in life.
In short, Ruben was an inspiration to those who knew and loved kim. His "big smile and dimples" will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by parents, Ruben, Sr. and Delilah, brother, Artory and sister, Dorothy.
Those left to cherish his memory are brothers, Rev. Jesse (Laura) Spears, Rev Robert (Julia) Spears, Clarence (Williemase) Spears, Eddie (Annashay) Spears and Lionel (Bridget) Spears; sisters, Mary (Randolph) Polk, Daisy (Earl) Wilmore and Ardena (Richard) Henry.
