Roy Francis Brighton, age 72, of Toledo, passed away suddenly Thursday, October 25, 2012 while on a fishing trip with family and friends in Cleveland. Roy was born November 18, 1939 to Francis and Florence (Duckworth) Brighton. He graduated from Central Catholic High School where he was a standout basketball player. Roy was an Army Reserves veteran. He worked for Canteen for 25 years. Roy was an outdoorsman; he was an avid fisherman and usually had his fishing pole with him wherever he went. He enjoyed spending time in the summer in the UP and on Lake Erie; in the winter he would spend a few months in Florida enjoying the outdoors and fishing. He was an active member of the Sylvania Moose Lodge where he was on the horseshoe league. Roy loved to play cards, go camping, fish fry's, karaoke, telling jokes by the campfire and square dancing. Roy was a very talented handyman who would lend a hand to others. He had many friends and was very close to his family. Roy loved children. His grandchildren and nieces have fond memories of Grandpa and Uncle Roy.
Roy is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Gloria; sons, Mike (Carol) and Douglas Brighton; step-children, Dan Rightmyer and Vicky Decker; brother, Dennis; sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Paul Robarge; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 3 nieces. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert "Bird" Brighton.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, November 1, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Bible Chapel, 3740 W. Alexis Rd., Toledo. Funeral Services will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the church.
