Rose Marie Kuceyeski passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2013.
Rose was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on August 8, 1949. Rose grew up in Alliance, Ohio, but lived in Toledo for most of her adult life.
For almost 30 years, Rose was a member of the Owens Community College faculty and served as an enthusiastic, vibrant and innovative leader throughout the campus but especially in the School of Business. Rose was an advocate for her profession by being a teacher, mentor, author, presenter, colleague, advisor, and as a champion of e-learning. While at Owens, Rose's contributions were vast. Rose co-chaired both the ACBSP Accreditation and Reaffirmation efforts for the School of Business, co-chaired the NCA 2000 Reaccreditation Self Study, was a Quality Team Master Trainer, served on numerous campus committees, and volunteered for campus activities and events. Rose retired in July, 2011, and returned to Owens as Interim Chair of the Information Systems/Office Administration Department from October, 2011 to May, 2013. She served as an adjunct faculty member at BGSU. Above all else, Rose cared about her students.
Throughout her career, Rose received many awards for her contributions to education and her community. These include National Business Education Association Postsecondary Teacher of the Year, Owens Community College President's Choice Outstanding Faculty, Distinguished Alumni in Business Education (BGSU), ACBSP Region 4 Post-Secondary Teaching Excellence, and was named a Marlington High School (Alliance, Ohio) Outstanding Alumni.
Rose's organizational affiliations, professional services and memberships include Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (Peer Reviewer, Mentor, Champion, Associate Degree Board of Commissioners); National Business Education Association (Convention Director, Officer); Higher Learning Commission of North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (Review Council and Peer Reviewer); Ohio Business Teachers Association.
Rose graduated from Marlington High School in 1967. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Malone College; her Master of Education from Bowling Green State University; and her Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Toledo.
Rose is survived by her husband of 41 years, Philip; daughter, Stacia of Columbus, OH; sisters, Donna Young and Cynthia (Randy) Phillips; sisters-in-law Barbara Vega, Diana (Ronald, Sr.) Cox, Cynthia (Don) Bianco; brother-in-law, Raymond Kuceyeski and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Cletus and Mary Ruth Moulin.
The family will receive guests on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). A Scripture Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. On Wednesday, family and friends will meet directly at Rosary Cathedral Parish, 2535 Collingwood Blvd., Toledo, for the Funeral Mass beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place on Friday at St. Joseph Cemetery in Alliance, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or St. Vincent de Paul at Rosary Cathedral.
