Ronald A. Gilliland

Ronald A. Gilliland, age 84, of Toledo, passed away Friday, August 27, 2021. He was born May 30, 1937 to Pearl D. and Areatha (Kerr) Gilliland in Rising Sun, Ohio. Ronald attended Elm Valley High School in Ashley, Ohio, graduating in 1955. He then enlisted in the US Air Force, serving his country proudly and receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1962. Ronald also served in the Ohio Air National Guard for more than 8 years achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Through the years Ronald was employed by numerous factories as a Maintenance Supervisor, finally retiring from the Crafthouse Corporation in 2006. He has been a longstanding member of First Antioch Apostolic Church since 1968. It was there that he was active as a Sunday School Teacher and Usher for more than 20 years. Ronald's greatest life changing event was when he received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit in 1969.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was also a man of strong faith. Ronald will be greatly missed by everyone whose live he touched whether it was with his warm smile, quick wit or great sense of humor.
Ronald was just preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Flora (McDowell) Gilliland on August 20, 2021. In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers and sister. Ronald is survived by his daughter, Venus Dalton; grandson, Steve R. Gilliland; brother, Wilbur Gilliland and many nephews and nieces.
The family will receive guests Friday, September 3, 2021 from 4-8:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, SW Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. (419-381-1900). A Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at 2:00 pm. at Toledo Memorial Park in Sylvania. Military Honors will be presented at that time.
Memorial contributions may be made to Vietnam Veterans Purple Heart Association in Ronald's memory.
