Roman "Ray" Spychalski, age 84, of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, September 16, 2017 at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania where he was surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 29, 1933 to Roman and Martha Spychalski, Toledo, Ohio.
Ray was retired from Local 886 and also Detroit Edison. He was a member of Club 16 for many years and enjoyed his participation in the many activities while he was a member. He was an avid golfer for many years. He also loved birdwatching from his back porch. He was an accomplished beer maker for many years, brewing European style beers. He also loved motorcycle riding and taking a trip to Sturgis upon his retirement. Over the years, many friends and relatives were the recipient of his talents with concrete skills for patios in exchange for a steak dinner and beers. Ray and his wife Nancy just celebrated their 60th anniversary this past July 13th.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Nancy (Riebesehl) Spychalski; children Judith (David) Wahlgren, Deborah Spychalski (Stephen Bouziden), Scott (Ericka) Spychalski, Brian (Elizabeth) Spychalski; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brothers Robert (Bonnie) Spychalski, Donald (Peggy) Spychalski, and Gene (Joyce) Spychalski and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive guests on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). A Prayer Service will be led by Ray's grandson, Matthew Wahlgren at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Ray's Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. in Little Flower of Jesus Parish, 5522 Dorr St. on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 with Rev. David Nuss officiating. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
