Roger Wayne Ullom, age 80, of Toledo, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2008 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born November 1, 1927 to Floyd and Sarah Louise (McKinsey) Ullom, Sr. in West Findlay Township, Pennsylvania. He was married on June 10, 1951 to Helen Malena. Roger was employed with Grand Trunk Railroad formerly DTSL Railroad for 40 years, retiring in 1990. He was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran. Roger was a member of the American Legion #110, Zenobia Shrine Highlanders and Riverview Yacht Club. He was an avid photographer serving as a judge for many photo contests, as well as being judged for his skills. Roger also served as president of the Toledo Camera Club. He was a talented craftsman working with wood and enjoyed making many keepsakes, such as, rockers, yo-yo's, wooden pens and much more for his family and friends. Roger also cared for and collected tropical fish and maintained a variety of salt water tanks over the years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Ullom; grandson, Adam Ullom; son-in-law, Timothy Dunham and brothers, Bernard and John Ullom. Roger is survived by his loving companion and best friend, Karen Adams; children, Heidi (David) Mounts; Roger (Chris) Ullom; Robin (Todd Cuprys) Dunham and Brian (Kim) Ullom; grandchildren; Carrie Mounts; Kylie and Taylor Ullom; Nicholas Mavis; Julia Dunham and Marissa; Megan and Sarah Ullom; siblings, Jack (June) Ullom; Mary (Glen) Grabel; Roberta (Bob) Elliott and Bev Rydel along with many nieces, nephews, dear friends and canine companion, "Mitzi". He is also survived by Karen's children, Susan (Keith) Miller and Bryan (Michelle) Adams and grandchildren, Joshua and Jacob Miller and Bryan and Baylee Adams.
The family will receive guests Friday from 2-8:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to the Zenobia Shriners Burn Unit or Northwest Ohio Hospice, Perrysburg Unit.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Northwest Ohio Hospice, Perrysburg, especially Megan, Jessica, Hal, Dee and Pat for the loving care and support they provided. Also a special thanks to Maria and Teri for their genuine care and dedication to Roger throughout his illness.
