Rodrigo "Roy" Martinez, Sr. passed away peacefully on June 17, 2021 at the age of 82, due to complications from Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Though born by mid-wife in Corpus Christi, Texas, Roy and Dawn, his wife, raised their children in Toledo, Ohio.
His family knew him as a man of honor with a quiet sense of humor that always seemed to catch you by surprise. Roy had a tremendous amount of love for his children and always found every opportunity to educate them on the importance of common sense.
As an entrepreneur and self-made man he established, along-side his son Rodrigo "Rod" Martinez, Jr. and his brother-in-law James Rank, Jr., Craftsman Upholstery "The Shop". Through Roy's dedication and perseverance he grew the Shop into a place where solid relationships developed and quality service with a hot cup of coffee were served daily. A special thank you to all those customers, decorators, vendors and craftsmen that added to the success of the Shop.
Roy is survived by his children, Rodrigo "Rod" (Melanie) Martinez, Jr., Gina (Bill) Teague, Lisa Martinez, Monica Montoya, Felecia (Jason) Roan, Russell (Lindsay) Bzoza; many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and many extended family members.
Roy was preceded in death by his loving wife for over 48 years, Gloria Dawn Martinez; adoring father, Ricardo Martinez; mother, Catarina Gallijos; step-mother, Catherine Martinez; son-in-law, Frank Montoya; and those close family members and dear friends who will remain in our hearts forever.
A heart felt thank you to ProMedica Hospice, Northwest Ohio Hospice and ProMedica physicians for their loving care and support.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, June 25, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with Memorial Services beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home Inurnment will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery, 2621 W. Erie Road, Temperance, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider making a monetary donation on behalf of Roy to ProMedica Hospice, Northwest Ohio Hospice, The Toledo Humane Society, Bittersweet Farms or Susan G. Komen Northwest Ohio.
