Robert Stanton

Robert Stanton, age 89, went to be with the Lord on November 4th, 2010. Robert was born in Toledo on July 22nd, 1921 to Clinton and Glada Stanton. He graduated from Libby High School in 1940.

Robert joined the Navy in July of 1942 and served in the Navy Seebees on Guam. During his time in the service Robert met and married Pearl Geer in Los Angeles on February 21st, 1944. Upon discharge from the Navy in December 1945, Robert and Pearl and their new son Larry returned to the Toledo area to begin their life together.

He purchased and operated the Gracewood Grill on Douglas Road for nearly 30 years. Customers there knew they could get a good meal at a fair price served with an interesting story or a practical joke. Robert and his growing family attended the Harvest Lane Brethren Church for over 30 years and held many positions there. He later attended Calvary Bible Chapel for over 20 years.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Pearl; brother, Albert (Dorothy) Stanton; sister, Janet (William) Hahnlen; sons, Larry; Gerald (Sandy); James (Pamela) and Rodney (Shirley); daughters, Susan Whitcomb and Ruthe Wend. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

Robert was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many. He will be greatly missed.

The family will receive guests Sunday from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) and Monday from 10-11:00 a.m. at Calvary Bible Chapel, 3740 W. Alexis Rd. Funeral Services will begin Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Bible Chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Andy Hill. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
