Robert Shake

Robert Edward Lee Shake, age 91, of Toledo, Ohio departed this world for a new life with Jesus on April 11, 2016. He was born on March 26, 1925 in Sullivan, Indiana to Lee and Bessie Shake. Bob joined the US Army in October 1942 and retired in 1964 after serving for 21 years and participating in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He then worked for the Dana Corporation in Toledo and retired from there in November, 1986. Bob taught bowling to Washington Township elementary students at Jackman Lanes. He taught hundreds of children the sport he loved. His other great love was playing Santa Claus at nursery school parties especially at Fairgreen preschool, and private parties. Bob was a member of the Great Banquet Community at Fairgreen Presbyterian Church where his love of Jesus Christ became a reality in his life. He also served as a Deacon, Elder and original member of the Stephen Ministry there. He was most recently attending Trinity Church of the Nazarene, in Toledo.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Rose. He is survived by his four children: Barbara (Steven) Yahn, James (Toni Freiheit), Michael (Rita) and Charles (Madelyn) Shake. Bob also leaves behind four grandchildren: Adam (Danielle) Calisch, Matthew (Carrie Hotte) Calisch, Echo (Matt) Routson and Monica Shake. Eight step-grandchildren: Jeff, Teresa and David (Michele) Freiheit, Liz, Tyler, Davis, Oliver and Blair Yahn and 13 great-grandchildren: Isaac, Addison, Cali, Caleb, Macie, Aubree, Brayden, Lucian, Corbin, Conner, Nichole, Mia, and Terri.

Bob resided for 40 years on Winona Road in Toledo before moving to Alexis Gardens and then to Oakleaf Village. He died at Ebeid Hospice Center at Flower. He had surgery in early 1965 for lung cancer and at that time his doctor gave him 10 years to live. He laughed at outliving the surgeon.

The family will receive guests Sunday, April 17th at Newcomer Funeral Home 4150 W. Laskey Road, Toledo (419-473-0300) from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 6:00 - 8:00 pm with Military Honors at 7:00 pm. Funeral Services will begin Monday, April 18th at 11:00 am at Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 4930 Flanders Rd. Toledo, Ohio.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Christopher Sherman and his Staff, the Staff at Oakleaf Village and Ebeid Hospice Center of Flower Hospital for their loving care of Bob. It made a difference!

Into you hands, O Lord, welcome Robert to paradise where there will be no sorrow, no weeping, no pain but the fullness of peace and joy with your Son Jesus and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
