Robert Len
Robert Len Vrooman, age 90, passed away at Aspen Grove Assisted Living Residence. He was a longtime resident of West Toledo before moving to Aspen Grove. Bob was born the youngest of eight in Toledo, Ohio to Len S. Vrooman and Hattie Belle (Talcott) Vrooman on July 4, 1918. He was a graduate of Libby High School. Bob also served in the Civilian Conservation Corp before starting his career at Willys Overland Motors. He was drafted into the Navy during WWII where he served in the Pacific Theater. After receiving his Honorable Discharge, Bob was awarded the Victory Medal, American Area Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal. He retired from Jeep after 31 years of service, where he worked in several departments. Bob was a lifelong member of Local 12, UAW Union. In his younger years he liked to go fishing and traveling through the Western states with Mom. In his later years Dad and Mom liked to visit friends at McDonald's.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Floyd, Clifford and Norman Vrooman, sisters, Lucille Hanlin, Ethel Wagner, Ida Freitag, Ruth Krawitzke, his wife of 67 years, Helen and his grandson, Robert Lawrence Vrooman. He is survived by his sons, Robert (Cathy) Vrooman and Lawrence (Carolyn) Vrooman; grandchildren, Raymond Vrooman, Angie (Todd) Baumgartner, David Vrooman, Amy (Jason) Spang and Susan Vrooman; 5 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marietta Leiter; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive guests on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Thursday at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Bruce Snyder of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
The family requests that any contributions be directed to the Emmanuel Christian Schools or Erie West Hospice.
The family wants to thank the staff at Aspen Grove and Erie West Hospice for the care given to Dad.
