Robert Maynard Keaton, 85, of Toledo, known to many as "Uncle Bob", passed away peacefully on the afternoon of July 7, 2022, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Hilda Redmond; father, Maynard Keaton; stepfather, Otis Redmond; brothers, William and and Richard Keaton, sisters, Carol (Charles) Avery and Kay Hermine (Joseph) Mottmiller.
He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Keaton; sons, Robert (Julie) Keaton, Mark (Jorja) Dearing, and David Dearing; daughter, Denise Keaton; granddaughters, Mandy McKellar, Nicole Brummett, and Chelsey Vary-Dearing; grandsons, Chandler, Chase, and Chaden Dearing; as well as many nieces and nephews of the Keaton, Avery and Mottmiller families.
A 21-year veteran of the US Air Force, Bob was stationed many places, including Greenland, Texas, Thailand, Maine, Hawaii, and Alaska. After retiring from the Air Force, he returned home from Alaska to Harbor View. Once home, he initially worked for a few years as a rough carpenter, spent several years working at ABC Supply and Luma Building Products, before settling in at Home Depot for over 20 years, working full time until the age of 83.Though his work ethic was incredible, perhaps more remarkable was just how plentiful and diverse his talents were. Bob could pour your concrete, build your house, and fix anything from your car to your dishwasher, always whistling while he worked. Then, if he liked you, he might prepare you a chef-level, multi-course meal of your ethnic cuisine of choice. He loved his family, his country, and his hockey. He inspired others to be useful, to be direct, and to help those in need, particularly the vulnerable, as well as those who were trying to better themselves. He is so loved and will be so dearly missed.
We would like to thank the staff at both St Vincent's Hospital and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their excellent care.
