Bob (Robert) Guyton, Sr., age 89, of Florida, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Ebeid Hospice with loving family by his side. He was born on September 28, 1929 to James and Josephine Guyton in Toledo, Ohio. Born into a hard working family, during the start of the Great Depression, he learned the value of how to rub two pennies together. His last words and testament were shared with his niece, Holly, and he expressed his love for his children and how being a Dad and meeting Nancy were simply the highlight of his life.
Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving in the Korean War and signed up to serve with a group of friends from Scott High School. He remembered clearly all of the men he served with and in the last several months benefited greatly from the support and assistance from the Veterans Administration. He was employed with General Mills as an Engineer for over 33 years and often times included his kids on any available taste testing, brownies being his specialty.
Bob was an avid reader and as Nancy would share, he belonged to the "book a day" club. He loved playing cards, and as recently as last Friday, taught his daughter Amy Jo to play Kings in the Corner while sitting upright in his hospital bed. His favorite game, as most of you know, was Euchre, and in the last three months he was able to play as much Euchre as he wanted at a wonderful facility in Toledo, called Genesis Village.
If you knew Bob, you know that he loved to play all kinds of sports as well as keeping up with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He also enjoyed and looked forward to home projects with his three children, being readily available to do whatever needed to be done. He believed that he could do most any project. Bob was also very active in the Senior Community in both Florida and Toledo and he was a friend of Bill W. for over 35 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Jim, Jeanne and Richard. Bob is survived by his wife, Nancy Jo; children, Jeff (Angela), Rob, and Amy Jo (Ken); grandchildren, Jessica, Seth, Shanna, and Nicole (Andrew); and last but not least, the most recent apple of his eye, born to Nicole and Andrew, his one year old great-granddaughter, Calia. One can't help but wonder if it wasn't this little bundle of joy that gave Bob the spirit and tenacity to stick around for one more year!
He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends who slowed down and came to visit him, creating lasting memories and reminiscing on what a great life he shared and was blessed to have.
A Private Celebration for Bob will be held in Florida at a later date.
Erika, at Newcomer - Northwest Chapel, Toledo (419-473-0300) assisted Nancy, Jeff, Angela, Rob, Ken, and Amy with the most delicate decisions on how to honor such a lovely man.
Those wishing to make memorial contributions to honor Bob are asked to consider The American Heart Association or a favorite Humane Society.
Special thanks to Dr. Sue and all of the staff and residents at Genesis Village for helping us on this journey to walk Bob home.
