Robert L. "Bob" Ewing, Sr., age 89, of Toledo, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 19, 2022 at the Goerlich Center in Sylvania. He was born on April 3, 1933 to Clyde and Ruth Ewing in Toledo. Bob graduated from Macomber High School. He was a proud Toledo Police Officer from 1957 – 1991 for 34.5 years retiring with #2 Badge. Bob had various partners including Terry Cecil, Jay Smith, Ted Bender, Lyman Elliott, Dick Langendorfer and Norb Widman and special officer, Cliff Warstler, who Bob looked at like a son and took under his wing before retiring. After retirement he worked with the Lucas County Sheriff Department as a Special Deputy. Bob also worked security for Brondes Ford for over 25 years. He was very giving and always helping others on and off the job.
Bob was a longtime member of Hopewell Wesleyan Church where he played the organ for many years. He was also on the board of directors. Bob loved animals especially dogs and cats. He enjoyed taking his family camping throughout the years in between working. Bob was a dedicated policeman, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. His smile, spirit and caring nature will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish Bob's memory are his sons, Donald, and Richard (Sherry) Ewing; daughters, Sharon (Jim) Ball, Betty (Tom) Barron, and Linda (Daniel) Sherburne; grandchildren, Jimmy (Elizabeth), Lori (Rob), Missy (Jeff), Michelle (Greg), J.R., Jamie (Danielle), Chris, Matt (Aimee), Lisa, Derick (Donna) and Michael; great-grandchildren, Amber, Austin, Jack, James, Elsa, Evelyn, Matthew, Michael, Taylor, Jonathan, Kayla (Kyle), Brandon, Logan, Corey, Luke, Brysen, Caden, Riley, Kora Bell, Aubree, Caleb, Alexa, Kaylee, Kyson, Matthew and Justin; great-great-grandchildren, Liam, Calianne, Colson, Levi and one on the way; many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Margaret Ewing; son, Robert L. Ewing, Jr.; daughters-in-law, Amy Ewing and Dianne Ewing; grandson, Robert Ewing; and siblings, Thelma Tucker and Clyde Ewing, Jr.
The family will receive guests on Friday, June 24, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with Funeral Services beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
