Bob "Dutch" Dutridge, age 82, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2014 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio after a brave battle with a lengthy illness.
A life-long Old South End resident, Bob was the son of Alfred and Angela (Stoeckley) Dutridge. He attended St. James Catholic Grade School and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School. Bob worked as a Buyer at Bostwick Braun for 45 years, retiring in 1995. He enjoyed smoking his pipe for most of his adult life and was an easy-going gentleman whose favorite saying was "Whatever", followed by a small shrug of the shoulders and a twinkle in his eye. Bob enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, fishing, camping, golfing, bowling, horseshoes, playing Euchre, rooting for his Cleveland Indians and watching all sports. He was one of the first, original Bostwick Braun Golf League players, quitting just last year due to his declining health. Bob was active at Arlington Elementary while his children were growing up, including acting as a long-time Scout Leader for Troop 66 and starting the "Arlington Cubs" pee wee baseball team, acting as coach of that team for 3 years. He always enjoyed it when now-grown Scouts or baseball players would recognize him and strike up a conversation.
Bob was married to the love of his life, Darla (Frye) Dutridge for over 60 years. They were parishioners at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Darla; children, James (Deb), Richard (Sherrie), Donald (Darla) and Nancy ( Jeff) Johnston; 12 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Gerald (Jerlyn); sisters-in-law, Nova Dutridge, Sharon (Dave) Barnsdale and Sandy Frye; brothers-in-law, Ernie (Barb) Frye and Alan Anthony and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William and sister-in-law, Nancy Anthony.
The family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses at St. Luke's Hospital and Hospice personnel who made the end of life journey a bit easier for Bob and all of the family members.
The family will receive guests on Monday, February 24, 2014 from 3-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). The Funeral Service will be private.
