Robert Joseph "Butch" Dabney, age 75, passed away on January 28, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on August 8, 1948 in Toledo to June Vines Dabney. Butch was employed by the State of Ohio, Local 500 until his retirement.
Butch attended Scott High School and later received his associate degree in Counseling. Butch loved his role in the community as a counselor, mentor and sponsor to many AA groups.
He was an author of African American Travel Journal. He was a Golden Gloves champion in the 1960's. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, listening to jazz; a diehard Cleveland Browns fan and OSU Football, but most of all, he loved his family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, June Vines Black and sister, Barbara Dabney Edwards. Left to mourn his passing is his daughter, Glynis Tucker; grandchildren, India Carnes, Justin Perryman; sister, June Dabney Strong; brother, Thomas Dabney (Denise Freeman). Also surviving are nieces, Kelly Edwards Hill, Yolanda Dabney Wyatt, Charlon Dabney Woods; nephews, Marlon Strong, Mustafa Shalid, Charles Strong and Gary Edwards Jr.
To know Butch, you knew he was a very strong-willed man and lived his life to his own beat.
A memorial service for Butch will be held at the Newcomer Funeral Home, (Southwest Chapel) 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 10:00 AM.
