Robert W. "Bob" Conboy, age 91, of Toledo, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2021 at Flower Hospital. He was born on June 4, 1930 to Robert and Marjorie (DeRuiggio) Conboy in Detroit, Michigan. Bob grew up in Detroit Beach in Monroe, MI before moving to Toledo. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army 2nd Armored Division, Fort Hood, TX. Bob often looked forward to spending time with all of his veteran friends. He was employed with 16 newspapers around the country before retiring with the Toledo Blade after 37 years as a printer. Bob was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, VFW Post 606, VFW Post 2898 and the Sylvania Moose Lodge. Bob enjoyed boating, golfing, going to the casino and spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former spouse, Sue Conboy; sister, Marjorie Gillean; brothers-in-law, Ron Gillean and Don Cardwell; and daughter-in-law, Debbie Kennedy. Left to cherish Bob's memory are his sister, Jean Cardwell, of Fullerton, CA; children, Tom Kennedy, of Tennessee; Kathy (Jim) Washburn, of Kentucky; Renee (Tad) Phillips, of Dublin, OH; Robert K. (Liz) Conboy, of Toledo; and Roger Conboy, of Toledo; grandchildren, Larry Martin, Chrissy Steinfurth, Bobbi Sue Schultz, Paige Burchell, Chad Washburn, Wesley Washburn, J.T. Washburn, Rachel Neubauer, Noel Phillips, Benjamin Phillips, Brandon Phillips, Jessica Kass, Grace Conboy, Robert A. Conboy, Jacob Conboy, Alan Conboy, and Ryan Conboy; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, August 19, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home – Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with a Sharing of Memories at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Funeral Services will begin Friday, August 20, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe, MI.
