Robert Bryant Borcherdt

March 31, 1941 — July 12, 2013

On Friday, July 12th, our Dad Bob Borcherdt went to be with his Heavenly Father. For the past 40 years, Mom and Dad have spent summers at their Canadian paradise on Manitoulin Island. My Dad loved this place, its beauty, and our family memories here. Fittingly, that is where he drew his last breath at the age of 72.

Bob was born in Manitowoc WI on March 31st, 1941 to Robert and Virginia Borcherdt and graduated from Anthony Wayne High School in 1959. Dad married our amazing mom, Judylynn Studer of Whitehouse, Ohio in 1962 and continued his education, graduating from BGSU in 1963 where he played baseball for the Falcons. He went on to get his masters degree from Eastern Michigan University. In 1964, Mom and Dad delivered their first son Bob. Four years later in 1968, their daughter Rebecca was born, and 4 years after that in 1972, their final child, Bryan, was born. Bob taught for 2 years in Perrysburg Schools and the remainder of his career at Rossford Junior High until his retirement in 1992.

For those of you that knew Dad, he loved sports. He was an avid Indians, Browns, and Red Wings fan. But most of all, he loved basketball. Dad was the assistant coach to Joe Stalma in the glory days of Rossford basketball, going 25-0 and making it to the state finals in 1970. Dad won approximately 90% of his JV games according to Coach Stalma. Coach and Dad loved nothing better than to talk about those glory days.

After his coaching days, Dad turned his attention to helping his own sons Bob (University of Toledo) and Bryan (Oakland University) realize their dreams of playing college basketball. Dad was also an avid fisherman, often canoeing through Canadian streams or chasing the elusive King Salmon in Lake Huron. These were always great memories.

In recent years, Dad has helped his youngest son Bryan in developing the high school and youth basketball programs at Anthony Wayne. Dad loved the kids, always wanting to say the right thing and took the time to invest in them as players and people. He was extremely proud of them all.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Virginia Borcherdt and his brother Bruce Borcherdt. Surviving are his amazing wife of 50 years Judy, sister Deborah (Borcherdt) sons Bob (Judy) and Bryan (Kristi), daughter Rebecca (Borcherdt), grandchildren Dan, David, John, Andy, Katie, John, Alyssa, Lyndsay and Kelsey. Recently, Bob has enjoyed the addition of two great grand-daughters, Brittyn (Dan and Emily) and Kinsley (David and Rochelle). Dad will be sorely missed and our hearts are broken by this sudden loss, but we take comfort in knowing that Dad passed where he wanted and with family around him. We love you Dad!

Visitation will be from 2-8 pm on July 19th at Newcomer Funeral Home on 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. A service will be held on July 20th at 10:00 at Heritage Church of God 3520 Strayer Rd. Maumee, OH.
