Rita Jo (Kretz) Provonsha

November 12, 1953 — August 23, 2023

Rita Jo, age 69, completed her courageous journey on earth on August 23, 2023 at Legacy Perrysburg Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. After a long and difficult health struggle of many years, she is finally resting in peace.

Born on November 12, 1953 in Defiance, Ohio to Raymond and Eleanor Kretz, she was the peaceful and quiet balance to a large family of ten. Sweet as a lamb, she masked her health struggles with laughter and smiles, never complaining nor asking for anything. Another link in our family chain is now missing but we know someday it will be whole again.

She attended elementary school in Defiance, OH and St. Agnes Catholic school and graduated from Roy C. Start High school in Toledo, OH in 1971. While in high school, she was a member of the Toledo chapter of Up With People, which promoted themes such as multiculturalism, racial equality, and positive thinking as well as volunteering at the original Flower Hospital on Cherry St.

After high school, she began working as a nurses aid at local nursing homes and spent several years at Mercy Hospital until she was no longer able to work.

She would always answer the call of the youngest siblings at bedtime. They would call out "Reeki, I need a glass of water" or "turn off the hall light". She would always come to help. As a child, she absolutely hated to make her bed, loved her gameshows, Cat Stevens, Pepsi and chicken fried rice.

But nothing brought her more joy than her caring & selfless daughter Brittany, who was the light of her life. Along with her husband Bill, they raised Brittany to be a loving, compassionate and attentive human being from a very young age.

Preceded in death by her parents, Ray & Ellie, sister Lori (Bruce) Beach and brother Daniel (Cindy) Kretz, she is survived by her husband Bill of 25 years and daughter, Brittany. Brothers David (June) Kretz, Gregory Kretz, John Kretz and sisters Jeanne Kretz and Lisa (Michael) Aust. Several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and grand dog, Charlie.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 30 at Newcomer Funeral Home 4150 W Laskey Rd, Toledo, OH 43623 from 3pm–6pm, where a memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm.

A brief gathering will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home Thursday, August 31 at 10:00 am with a procession to Roth Cemetery, Keener Rd, Monclova, OH, where she will be laid to rest close to her brother Daniel.

The family would like to thank ProMedica Hospice Serving Northwest Ohio and the staff of Legacy Perrysburg for their special care and kindness for the past 1 ½ years of her life.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to ProMedica Hospice Serving Northwest Ohio or to the charity of the donor's choice.
