Ricky T. Walker, Sr., age 62, of Sylvania, OH, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 30, 2011, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio with his loving children and friends by his side. He was born October 21, 1949, in Manning, SC to Milton and Willian Hampton Walker. He attended public schools in Manning and graduated cum laude with an A.B. degree from Dickinson College. Ricky also earned a Masters Degree from Cornell University. He served as a captain in the Army Reserves for many years.
Throughout his professional career Ricky held several positions in institutions of higher education focused on equity and diversity. Most recently, he served as Senior Director of Affirmative Action at the University of Toledo. Ricky was also an active participant in various national, state, and local organizations. He was a long time member of the Toledo Fair Housing Board, and he served for many years as the Scholarship Chair for the 50 Men and Women of Toledo, Inc. Ricky was an avid fan of baseball. He was a quiet soul who enjoyed reading and refurbishing computers.
Ricky was preceded in death by his father, Milton Walker. He is survived by his son, Ricky Walker, Jr. of Toledo, OH; daughter, Whitney Walker of Sylvania, OH; mother, Willian Walker and brother, Roderick Walker both of Manning, SC; nephew, R. Brent Walker (Kimberly), of Charlotte, NC; niece, Brandi Walker (Bob Turner) of Creedmoor, NC and many other relatives, colleagues and friends.
As per Ricky's request, a memorial service will be held in Manning, SC at a future date. Those wishing to honor Ricky's memory are asked to consider a donation to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
