Richard Arnold Zajkowski

August 11, 1939 — February 5, 2025

Maumee

Richard Arnold Zajkowski, aged 85, passed away peacefully on February 5th, 2025, at his final residence, the Lakes of Monclova in Maumee, OH. Richard was a devoted family man who always prioritized his loved ones above all else. He led an honest and hardworking life, never placing material possessions above the value of family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Phyllis; his two sons, Paul (wife Shelly and grandchildren Madelyn, Nolan, and Morgan) and Chad (wife Amy and grandchildren Alison and Jacob); and his daughter Cara (grandchildren Emma and Brady). Richard, affectionately known as "Papa Z," cherished his grandchildren with all his heart. He is also survived by his sisters Mary Ann and Irene; and brothers Frank and John. Richard was preceded in death by his parents John and Martha; brother Theodore (Ted); and sister Betty.

Born in Rogers City, MI, Richard spent his childhood on his family farm in Posen, MI, where his love for machinery began. He had a successful career as an engineer, working at Massey Ferguson, Detroit Diesel, and the General Motors Proving Grounds in Milford, MI, for 30 years as the Advanced Product Engineer Supervisor, developing the first Anti-Lock Brake System for GM cars.

You could never keep him away from the outdoors, his garage, and the Great Lakes. His hobbies included hunting with his children in their early years, fishing, wood working, maintaining backwoods trails on his home in Port Sanilac, MI, and tinkering in the shop.

As a devoted Catholic, Richard found strength, guidance, and solace in his beliefs. He was an active member of his church community, participating as an usher of the Knights of Columbus and serving on the board. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. His faith was not just a part of his life; it was the foundation upon which he built his values and principles.

As we remember Richard, let us celebrate the incredible man he was and the profound impact he had on all of our lives. May we honor his memory by cherishing our own families and living with the same integrity and love that he exemplified every day.

Funeral services will be held in White Lake, MI, at a later date.
