Richard A. "Dick" Sendelbach, age 73 of Toledo passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Flower Hospital in Sylvania. He was born on December 6, 1937 to Frank and Katherine (Ritzenthaler) Sendelbach in Tiffin, Ohio. Dick proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy where he was Honorably Discharged after four years of service. He retired from GM Powertrain in 1992 after 31 years of service. He was also a member of UAW Local 14. For many years Dick bowled on the Powertrain bowling league at Jug's where he also served as secretary. He was a Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts Troop 20 at St. Agnes Church. He was a member of Northwest Ohio Browns Backers, an avid Cleveland Indians fan and Dick loved traveling to see Nascar races. After his retirement he enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events, but when he wasn't busy with that he could be found in his wood shop. Dick was always available to lend a helping hand to anyone who was in a need of a home repair.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 51 years, Joann (Grycza); children, Deb, Luann, Judy, Connie (Rick) Schmitz, Patricia (Brian) Gregg, Jeanna (Brian) Jones and Christine (Randy) Chipley; grandchildren, Savannah, Joe, Ricky, Tyler, Cory, Joseph, Jeremy, Katie, Matthew, Lizzie, Hunter, Benjamin, Austin and Lindsey; great-grandchildren, Joimoni, Joe Jr. and Laila; brothers, Robert (Debby) Sendelbach and Lawrence Sendelbach; mother-in-law, Theresa Grycza. Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Carolyn and father-in-law, Joseph Grycza.
The family will receive guests Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home there will be a Boy Scouts Service honoring Dick followed by a Scripture Service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Services will begin in the funeral home on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph, 5373 Main St. in Sylvania. Interment will follow in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
