Richard "Sarge" Willis Sowle, a devoted family man and a proud patriot, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2024, at the age of 86. He was born on August 6, 1938, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Willis and Amelia (Groth) Sowle.
Sarge's remarkable journey began with his service in the military, where he rose to the rank of Sergeant First Class in the Army. For 22 years, Sarge served his country with unwavering commitment and pride, embodying the true spirit of patriotism. His love for the military was matched only by his love for his family, as he instilled a sense of duty and respect for others in all those around him.
After his distinguished military career, Sarge found fulfillment working at Teamsters for 20 years, where he shared his unique talents as a truck driver. This role allowed him to connect with countless individuals, building friendships that would last a lifetime while demonstrating his dependable nature and strong work ethic.
In retirement, Sarge explored his wanderlust, traveling to beautiful destinations such as Hawaii and Russia. With a zest for life, he made unforgettable memories while dining at delightful restaurants, savoring every moment and every flavor. Each adventure opened his eyes to the beauty of the world, but he always cherished returning home to those he loved.
Sarge's personality shone brightly through his loving and caring nature. His laughter echoed in the hearts of his friends and family, a testament to a life lived joyfully and meaningfully. He lived a life filled with love, dedication, and adventure that touched the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy will live on through the love he shared and the stories we hold dear, reminding us always to honor our roots and cherish each moment we are gifted. He leaves behind a wealth of memories that will forever stay in our hearts.
Those left to forever cherish his memory are his loving wife, Patty (Courtney) Sowle, whom he married on June 11, 1983; four daughters, Major Rochelle (Colonel Steven) Lehr, Kathy (Chip) Werner, Tammy Kirchbaum, and Lisa Schuster; eleven grandchildren; and fifteen great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Willis Clinton Sowle; three sisters; and one brother.
Family and friends may gather on Friday, November 22, 2024, at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm, where the funeral service will be along with military honors. After services, Sarge will be laid to rest.
