Richard L. Robinson

July 21, 1940 — December 30, 2017

Richard (Rich) L Robinson went home on December 30, 2017. He is now free from pain and has joined his mother (Pocahontas), brother(Harrison), and sister (Ina).

Richard was born in Toledo, Ohio on July 21, 1940. His parents were Pocahontas Robinson and Richard Hunter. He is the eldest of 9 children. He leaves behind his daughter Deidre Robinson, and siblings - Benjamin Wood, Katherine Scrivens, Mary Francis Burton, Robert Wood, Harold Wood, Nina Nigil. Preceded him in death are his mother Pocahontas Dronomraju, father Richard Hunter, brother Harrison Wood, and sister Ina Wood.
Richard grew up on Stateline Ohio/Michigan border - Sylvania, Ohio. While a young boy, he was a Boy Scout. He went to Burham High School in Sylvania, Ohio. After high school, he went into the Air Force. He was stationed at Mather Air Force base in Sacramento, CA. He was a 2nd Class Airmen. While stationed in Sacramento, one job he held was a machinist. After four years in the Air Force, he was honorary discharged. Then he moved to Oakland, CA.

Throughout his life, he held many jobs in which he excelled. He was a milkman, insurance agent, and an excellent carpenter, to name a few. Consequently, his personality help launch his career in sales. While in Oakland, he won awards 3 times for head salesman. Eventually, he ended up being a car salesman. In 1973, he headed back to his hometown Toledo, Ohio where he continue to sell cars. While in Toledo, he also won awards for head salesman.

He was a very charismatic people person. His smile and outgoing personality drew people around him. He was a gentleman and well-respected in his community. Richard loved to listen to jazz, go to concerts, excellent roller skater, and later on in life an avid tennis player.
Furthermore, he was one of seven individuals that started a tennis organization - with Ottawa Park Tennis Association. He held multiple positions during his tenure. Also, he was president, vice-president and held other positions within the organization. He has impacted a lot of lives throughout his participation. He was active member in USTA club. He was dedicated to the game of tennis from organizing and to driving it. He help to build relationships with other tennis organizations and in other communities. Within the last ten years, he was part of Parker's Tennis Camp at Germaine Park. In the summers, he was a tennis coach and would teach youth under the age of 10 years old. He loved working with children. Sometimes, he would have up to 30 youth ranging in age from 5-10 years old. Any opportunity to attract people of color to the game of tennis was his intention.
He will be truly missed by his daughter, and family. He leaves behind the love of his tennis family and people that he have touched in his life.
His family would like to send a heartfelt 'Thank you' to his friends and family that provided support and love to his daughter through this time.

I would like to give a special 'Thank you' to LeVonica Gay for all her friendship, support and advocacy for my Dad while he was fighting for his life.

Memorial will be held at the Newcomer Funeral Home - Southwest Toledo, Ohio on January 13, 2018 @ 12:00 PM. Burial will be at Dayton National Cemetery - at a later date.
