Richard Rice, age 79, of Toledo, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. Richard was born June 14, 1929 to Russell and Dorothy (Coon) Rice in Toledo. He was a graduate of Devilbiss High School. Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Air force serving during the Korean War. He bowled for 30 years for the Shrine and was an avid golfer. Richard made a hole-in-one in 1977 at Riverby Hills Haughton Tournament and was a golf marshall at Ottawa Hills Park. He was employed with Haughton-Schindler Elevator for 30 years. Richard was a Free Mason for over 50 years, a 32nd degree Free Mason and a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the Eagles, both Maumee and Toledo.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Connie Rice; step-sons, John (Valerie), Joseph (Christine) and Thomas (Ginny) Sylvester; and 7 grandchildren.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday from 2 - 4:00 and 6 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
