Richard Joseph Kurtz

August 31, 1956 — March 10, 2025

Toledo, Ohio

Richard Joseph Kurtz, affectionately known as Rick, passed away unexpectedly on March 10, 2025, in Toledo, Ohio. Born on August 31, 1956, he was the eldest son of John and Donna Kurtz. His genuine smile and quick wit brought joy to the lives of those who knew him, and his memory will be cherished by family and friends alike.

Rick’s youth was filled with laughter and adventure, spending summers at his grandparents' cottage in Luna Pier. It was here that he often took on the role of mischief maker and ringleader, entertaining his siblings, cousins, and friends by the lake. After graduating from Macomber High School in 1974, Rick found his calling as an auto body mechanic. This trade led him to relocate to Florida, where he honed his skills alongside his uncles at their corvette shop.

Rick’s passion for the water was evident throughout his life; he delighted in boating and fishing. Eventually, he returned home to help manage the family farm, further demonstrating his commitment to family and hard work. After retiring, Rick embraced his love for cooking and took great joy in spending time with his nieces and nephews, creating unforgettable memories.

Rick's spirit will continue to live on through the love and kindness he shared with those around him. To honor his wishes, there will be no funeral service. Instead, a memorial Mass will take place on March 19, 2025, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Temperance, Michigan, with a celebration of life to follow at a later date.

Rest in peace, Rick. You were our champion and will always be dearly loved.
