Richard J. "Jombo" Kollie, Sr., age 73, of Toledo, OH, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 3, 2021 surrounded by his loving family at the Toledo Hospital. He was born on November 13, 1948 in Monrovia, Liberia. Richard was an extremely hard worker, and respected Corrections Officer for 19.5 years for the State of Ohio before retiring. He loved his futbol known as soccer to many. Richard was a longtime member of the Liberian Association, which he was truly proud of. He was an amazing father, grandfather, and adored all of his family. During retirement, Richard found a love of Jimmy Swaggert Sun Life Broadcasting Network, old sitcom TV, and his African movies. He had a great sense of humor, could make anyone laugh and his smile will truly be missed by all. Richard's smile, spirit and caring nature will deeply be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Kollie and Nora Roberts; wife, Doretha Kollie; son, Richard J. "Kofi" Kollie, Jr., of Liberia; daughter, Delbe Kollie, of Liberia; brothers, Robert Marshall and Matthew Toles; and sisters, Rose Kollie and Williametta Kollie.
Left to cherish Richard's memory are his loving children, Miata (Michael) Lee, Janda Kollie, Evelyn Kollie, and Tonia White; grandchildren, Marsue Horace, Dominique Kollie, Davon "Bear" Taylor, Jr., Byron Harvey-Kollie, and Richard J. Kollie, III; many great-grandchildren; siblings, Samuel (Dolovah) Howard, Reginald Kollie, Grace Kollie-Corneh, Dr. Theophilus (Rebecca) Kollie, Edith Kollie, Nica Kollie-Bemah, William Kollie and Philip Kollie; special friends, Ramsey Freeman, Jimmy Seares and Audrey Wright; and a host of many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
There will be no visitation or service to honor Richard's wishes. Newcomer Funeral Home – Northwest Chapel, Toledo (419-473-0300) assisted the family with professional services.
