Richard Joseph "Dick" Unger, age 96, of Toledo, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania. He was born on July 28, 1919 to Charles and Rose (Ptak) Unger in Cleveland, Ohio. Dick proudly served his county in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He retired from General Electric after many years of service, having worked for them from the end of WWII until his retirement in 1981. Dick and his family eventually settled in Toledo, Ohio in 1960.
When Dick wasn't working, he enjoyed participating in his sons' sporting and musical endeavors, including coaching little league teams and supporting Whitmer High School Band Boosters. He could always be found rooting for his favorite college football team, The Ohio State Buckeyes. Dick's family will always remember his quick wit and how he joked so often with his grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Richard Unger of Coldwater, MI and Ronald (Carol) Unger of Harvest, AL; honorary daughter, Mary Jane Holland of Wauseon, OH; precious grandchildren, Kristina, Keri, Amanda and Ronald and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Unger.
