Richard J. "Dick" Laraway, age 71, of Temperance, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2013 after a brief battle with leukemia. He was born on May 9, 1942 to James and Olga (Lustilla) Laraway in Warren, Ohio. Dick was a graduate of the University of Toledo where he received his Bachelor of Education and played football. He started his 35 year career with Toledo Public Schools, where he was a physical education teacher at Whittier Elementary and DeVeaux Middle School, where he also coached track and field. In his spare time he enjoyed staying active, cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events, attending NHRA races and playing poker with his retirees group.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 34 years, Shirley (Mace) Laraway; children, David, Donald and Cathy Laraway; step-children, Erin (John) Patrick, Kathy Kurek, Barry (Denise), Brian (Kathy) and Shawn McManaman; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a host of friends from over the years.
The family will receive guests on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin in the funeral home on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Bedford Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
