Richard H. "Rich" Bitter, age 71, of Sylvania, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at the Toledo Hospital surrounded by his loving children. He was born on January 1, 1943 to Lionel and Zeta (Devol) Bitter in Lima, Ohio. As a child, he was a boy scout and remained loyal with them. Rich graduated from Waite High School in 1960 where he continued to be very involved with the Alumni Association. He owned his own Accounting Business in Sylvania for over 20 years. Rich was a proud Sylvania resident, very involved in Sylvania Chamber of Commerce, strong supporter of the Sylvania Fire Department and volunteered at the Jamie Farr Classic. He was a longtime 32nd Degree Mason. Rich proudly supported the Toledo Zoo as a Silver Circle donor. He donated his time as the treasurer for Adam's House. Rich loved nothing more than the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, loving to tell stories. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dave Bitter. Rich is survived by his sons, Jeff (Karen), Doug, and Keith (Kelly) Bitter; daughter, Karen (Scott) Mawer; grandsons, Jacob, Ethan and Alex; former wife and friend, Cherrie Taylor; brother, Donn (Sarah) Bitter; sister-in-law, Linda Bitter; spouse, Mary Jo Bitter; and many other family members and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Sunday from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Monday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
