Richard G. Gillen, age 67, of Toledo, passed away peacefully December 24, 2014 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Perrysburg. Richard was born May 20, 1947 in Toledo to Richard Gillen and Lorna (Hahn) Hartford. Dick was a graduate of Bowsher High School and afterwards proudly served in the Army during the Vietnam War as a paratrooper. He was employed with GM Toledo Powertrain for more than 35 years. Dick also served as coach and commissioner for the Washington Local Jr. football league for 40 years. In his free time he enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, camping and traveling with family across the U.S. He will be greatly missed by all of those who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Richard was also preceded in death by his son Rick and his brother Steven. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Bette Gillen, daughters; Renona (Rob) Sanchez and Christine (Todd) Keel, son Scott Gillen, brothers Dan (Dorothy) Gillen, Randy Gillen, Robin (Linda) Richey, Shane Richey and sister, Lorna Michaels, grandchildren Riley, Tyler, Ricky, Chrissy, Caleb and Barbie.
The family will receive guests Sunday, December 28, 2014 from 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home - NW Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Monday at 11:00 am. in the funeral home
