Richard was born on September 6, 1933, son of Maurice and Marie Farmer in Toledo Ohio. Richard graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1951 and enlisted in the United States Air Force the same year. In 1954, he married Donna Jean Nagy and in 1957 they moved to Southern California, where they lived in several locations before finally settling in San Diego. They had three children, David Alan Farmer born in 1955, Douglas Richard born in 1959, and Derek Michael born in 1965.
Richard had a great passion for numbers and settled into a career as an accountant. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in accounting from National University and worked for many years with several defense-related industries in San Diego before retiring in 1991. Upon retirement, he decided to return to Toledo where he met and married Kathryn in 1993. They enjoyed a long and happy retirement together taking many trips throughout the world, including Europe and the Caribbean. Additionally, Richard enjoyed golfing and tennis and was a fan of Notre Dame and Ohio State football.
He will be greatly missed not only by his family but by many friends as well. He is survived by his Son David (Sheila) Farmer, Son Douglas Farmer, Son Derek Farmer, Stepdaughter, Wendy (John) Santiago, Step Son, Jeffrey (Susan) Voigt, Step Son Martin (Robin) Voigt, as well as 5 grandchildren, 15 step grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and 6 step great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is his sisters, Peggy (Nicholas) Huffer and Marylu (Thomas) Gouttierre.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Maurice and Marie, First Wife Donna; sister, Nancy; Brother Thomas; sister, Patricia; brother, Maurice; Step Daughter in Law, Michelle Voigt; Step Son, Michael Voigt and Granddaughter Meaghan Nichols.
Also a special thank-you to his little sidekick Robin Womack who has been a great help to the family for the last 5 years.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, SW Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). Memorial contributions may be made to the Cherry Street Mission Ministries, 1501 Monroe St., Toledo, OH 43604
